What’s in My 3-1-1 Liquids Bag

If you’ve been following my blog, you know that I tend to travel with Carry On Only luggage. I have a toiletry bag pre-packed so I’m ready to grab it and be packed quickly. If you are new to traveling, make sure to read Travel Tips for Beginners.

What I have in my 3-1-1 Liquid Carry On Bag

I really minimize what I take when I travel because I use the same things over and over and know exactly what I need when for my trip. Key items to remember when packing this bag is that “liquids” is not just that…it refers to lotions, creams, gels and now they are even adding powders to that list. Below is a list of the items you’ll find in my 3-1-1 bag and at the bottom of the page are items you can substitute to make sure you have enough room!

List of Items in my 3-1-1 Bag

Add any of your “must have” items that you need to the list above.  I do not wear a lot of make-up so you won’t find things like powders, blushes, highlighters, lipstick, etc.  If you travel with those items, then make sure to change some of your other liquid items to solids so you have plenty of space. Downsizing and being smart about what you really need will make your packing lighter and easier. If you make some small changes, you’ll be able to bring those items that are important to you. Below are some items that will free up space in your “liquids” bag.

Items to Change Out From Liquid to Solids

  • Perfume: I use a solid perfume which is a great option and doesn’t spill so find one that you love
  • Deodorant:  Aerosol, gel and roll-on all count under “liquid” so go for a solid
  • Eye Makeup: Eye Liner Pencil vs. Liquid Liner
  • Make-up Remover: Change to Wipes vs. liquid for travel
  • Brow Pencil vs. anything with a liquid in it

I very rarely will I pack anything additional beyond this list.

What to Pack for Extended Travel

If I’m going to be somewhere for several months, I’ll just buy liquid toiletries where I am traveling to such as a large Body Wash, large Body Moisturizer, Sunscreen, etc and my husband and I will share them. Travel size items in stores can cost just as much as a full-size item so consider this when you are going somewhere for weeks or months!

Once You Are Through the Security Checkpoint

A few items I transfer  from my Liquid 3-1-1 Bag to my Quick Grab Bag so I’m ready once I board the plane. Those items are:

  • Hand sanitizer
  • Toothpaste (for International travel)
  • Lip gloss

Hope this packing list helps you to smoothly get through every Security Checkpoint!  If you move items from your 3-1-1 bag for the flight, make sure to move them back if you have any connecting flights and have to go through security again. Happy Travels!
