Vegas Weekend Getaway
Vegas Baby! It’s one of those places you should visit at least once in a lifetime. It’s truly a playground for adults (I don’t have kids so I can’t speak to the child-friendly aspect of the place)!
I’ve been to Las Vegas over 60 times, not only for Bachelorette parties, weddings and girls’ weekends but I used to fly out there for work every other week for over a year. Living in Los Angeles, Las Vegas was a quick 45 minute flight away…much better than the 5 hour drive on one of the most dangerous highways in the US. So I have been to Vegas for work and play…the last time was just to fly out and see a friend who was there for work. I flew out just for one night so we could have dinner and hang out for a bit for quality friend time. Now that I live in South Africa and my friends are all in the US, if I’m “in town” I make sure to go see my girls…no matter what it takes! Growing up, my family would go to Lake Powell every year to go house boating so often we’d stop by Vegas on the way home since it was such a long drive home.
Why Las Vegas?
People go to Vegas for different reasons but my favorite parts are the spectacular shows, amazing restaurants and over the top designs. Restaurants with “mermaids” swimming by you, an Italian hole in the wall restaurant from the 70s filled with memorabilia (Battista’s) or a 4 story wine tower in the middle of the restaurant at Aureole with a “wine angel” that gets your wine. Vegas has award winning food and the most exquisitely designed restaurants which are a site to behold. Walking through one of the many shopping areas I saw a lingerie store that you walk through the legs to enter the store (photo to the left). Over the top, so very Vegas!
Casinos
Casinos, whether you are a gambler or not, can be so much fun! Each casino has a different theme such as Cesar’s Palace with Roman Statues and fountains and Excalibur with the Medieval theme, there is truly something for everyone. There is the old town area of Fremont Street vs. the Strip where the majority of the new casinos are. Vegas is no longer cheap but there are plenty of options of places to stay that don’t break the bank. Personally I am not a big gambler, my favorite thing to do in Vegas are in the list which I’ve put below. The only gambling I would do to pass the time when I was working and tired of being in my room, was go to a nice bar (not too loud) and sit and play video poker. At only 25 cents per play I could play for hours on just a few bucks!

What to Wear in Las Vegas?
The one thing about Vegas is there is a freedom of wearing what you want there. If you want to play with a different style of clothing that you normally don’t wear, change the way your do your hair or make-up….this is a PERFECT place to do it! You’ll see girls on the strip walking around with next to nothing on whether they are show girls or models on their way to to one of the hotel pool areas…there is never a lack of skin showing on the Strip!
Have something with sequins? Beading? Fringe? Crystals? THIS is the place to wear it…have fun! The one thing that you cannot go without is comfortable shoes! When you are in Vegas, the casinos, the strip…you will walk for hours, for miles, even if you want to just visit 2 casinos! Make sure that you wear comfortable shoes…my best piece of advice! I always take a sequin top, I’ve had a black sequin cotton/stretch tank top that I love to take there-it’s comfortable and it’s the perfect place to wear it! I also never visit Vegas without my trusty Vionic sandals which are both cute and comfortable! Have a cute bathing suit you never wear because seems too “extra”? This is where you wear it! And that gorgeous bathing suit cover-up that just seems too dressy…you will wear it here and not feel out of place I promise!
