Airport Lounges….Oh How I Love Them!
I have been using Airport lounges for many years and I cannot recommend them enough, especially when you are traveling by yourself.
Before I had any status with the airlines, and even today, I still use my Priority Pass program so I always have a place togo for those long layovers. Having a 5 hour layover and having a place to go, makes the entire travel day so much more pleasurable.
I will never forget the time that I was traveling and all of the flights were delayed. I went and stood in line at the American Airlines business lounge and when I got to the front, I asked how much for a day pass. At that time they didn’t do a day pass so it was far too expensive. I said, no, that’s too much for me, thank you anyway. The man at the counter next to me heard me and said he’d let me in as his guest…what a sweetheart! It made the rest of the day so much more pleasant. Flights were delayed for 4+ hours and the terminal was a nightmare so I truly appreciated the kindness of this stranger!
Ever since then I have been a member of Priority Pass airport lounge program. I have used in South Africa, Ecuador, ….. and countless other cities and countries across the globe. I always research all of the airports I’m going
to have layovers at so I know what my options are and where each lounge is located. Several times I’ve gone through security when the better lounges is before security or before the international terminal.
Not all lounges, even within the same airport, have the same facilities, especially showers so make sure to do your research. This is something I always like to do when I have a 20+ hour travel day, it makes such a difference to your overall mood and comfort!
My FAVORITE all time airport lounge experience was at the OR Tambo Airport in South Africa called the VIP Slow Lounge. We were upgraded to First Class with Air France on our way to Paris and it was amazing. We had a private area and our lounge attendant wore a top hat!
