Packing Tips for Travel Toiletries
Whenever possible, I do Carry On Only so the rule pertaining to liquids and Carry-On Bags is one of the most important things when planning what toiletries to take on a trip. Even if you don’t do carry-on, it’s a good idea to downsize your liquids and only take what you need. These tips will show you how to pack your toiletries for a trip.
The TSA (Transportation Security Administration) in the US enforces a 3-1-1 Rule for liquids, gels, aerosols and pastes which you can see in the graphic to the right.
Here is the link to the TSA website as the rules DO change. For example, now powders are now something that they are looking at closely vs. just the liquids. If you always have a couple of spare zip lock bags with you, it will help you make quick adjustments as needed. Last time I went through security they asked for you to separate Food Items in a separate bag so things change, make sure you check! Now remember, the TSA is only the US governing body. Each country may make you take out other items when going through security or let you keep them in so always read the signs before it’s your turn to go through the screening process.
I have tried many travel toiletry containers over the years and below is the list of my favorite items that stand the test of time and are worth it. It doesn’t matter how nice something looks, if it leaks all over your other items, it’s not travel worthy!
Here are my Must Have Travel Toiletry Organizers
These organizers I have had for years and they are the absolute best! They come in a pack of 7 and come in all sizes so they’re great for using for all different items that you need to pack. Many times one is for shower items, one is for my Quick Grab Bag that goes in the seat pocket in a plane, one for electronics, etc. They are re-usable and tough so they last and worth every penny. They make traveling so easy and any time you need anything, items are organized together and the see through pouches are for more than just getting through security check-points. I normally don’t unpack, I keep these items in the clear pouches the entire trip as they are so easy to use and take up very little counter space.
Leak Proof Silicon Squeeze Bottles 3 oz Each
I will never purchase another type of travel size bottle for carry on again or the cheap drugstore travel containers. These silicon bottles are the best by far! They’re soft and leak proof and I keep these pre-packed in a travel toiletry bag ready to go. Having a toiletry bag that’s already packed is a great way to make packing that much easier. These squeeze bottles are made of food grade silicon so if there is something that you want to take with you, like a favorite dressing, syrup or whatever, this is the perfect item for that.
Clear Jars with Screw Lids, Perfect for Travel
I discovered these jars years ago when I was given a small sample from Ulta in a little screw top pot. I thought how perfect it was for me as I love to travel as light as possible and certain things I need just a tiny amount. I searched around and found these and my set now has lasted me for years.
I hope you’ll find these items as useful as I do!

I do not travel with shampoo or a hairdryer because they are always provided at the hotel where I stay. I do check the list of amenities before booking a place so there will be no surprises.
