Traveling in Business Class

Traveling in Business Class

Because I travel often, I have status on the airlines I fly most often. American Airlines and Delta and by extension, all of their airline partners, are the air carriers I stick to so that I can book Business Class tickets at little or no extra cost. Traveling in Business Class has more perks than just the flight itself. From the moment you arrive to the airport, you’ll have a fast track and much more pleasant overall experience.

Airport Check-In

When you arrive at the airport there should be a Business Class Check-In Counter so make sure to find it. This will save you a lot of time. American Airlines, for example, at LAX has a completely different entrance and you enter security this way too so make sure to take advantage of that.

When you check-in and find out your gate, make sure to ask where the closest Business Lounge is to your gate.

Security Check Point

As mentioned above, many times when you go from Business Check-in there will be a separate entrance or line through to the security check-in, sometimes even a separate lane.

Business Lounge

Even if you only go into the business lounge for a short time, just to have a nice clean, un-crowded bathroom is worthit. Of course the free champagne and food is always a tremendous perk. Make sure to check the monitor before leaving to make sure there is no delay in your flight or any gate changes.

If you are doing more than one long International flight, I highly recommend that you use the showers when at your layover location. As soon as you arrive to the lounge, go to the shower check-in and schedule your time. Some places make you schedule a specific time, others just say to show up when you are ready. I usually check that out, then go relax for a while and only go and shower when I have about an hour and a half left. I cannot tell you how much taking a shower and putting on some fresh clothes makes you feel when you’re in the midst of a 20+ travel day. It truly makes traveling feel more enjoyable!

If you are have a layover or are at the airport and they do not have an airline lounge, I highly recommend you join the Priority Pass program. I’ve been a member for 10 years and they have lounges all over the globe. Check out the Priority Pass Airport Lounge Program Here.

Yet another perk to flying Business Class is being able to board early with the First Class passengers and frequent flier clients. If you don’t think this is a perk, I promise you that it is. Boarding later in the flight and not having your bag by your seat is a major inconvenience. Especially with air carriers now charging for even 1 checked bag, I’ve seen an increase of people with a lot of carry-on baggage.  If you can only find a place for your bag several rows back, for example, you may have to wait until all the rows behind you disembark just to be able to grab your bag. If you’ve done carry-on only this can be quite frustrating as the intent is to be able to have that freedom of “grab it and go”.

When you get to your seat, note that you normally cannot have anything on the floor around you during take-off or landing. All items must be stowed in the areas provided at your seat or above you in the storage lockers. Make sure to sanitize everything and then relax while you’re served a pre-flight drink.

On the Plane

You’ve all seen the Business Class seats even if only walking by and yes, they are really that nice. The fact that you canlie completely flat to sleep is something worth paying for if you can afford it.  Being able to get onto the plane early gives you plenty of time to make yourself comfortable for your long flight. You’ll be offered a Welcome Kit with toiletries with everything from containing lotion, lip balm, eye mask, and similar. You may even be offered a “sleeping suit” or pajamas.

Disembarking the Plane

Along with First Class, you’ll be one of the first to exit the plane. you get to stretch your legs first and get that much more extra time to catch your next flight or to your ultimate destination. And if you were smart enough to do Carry-On only, you’ll save even more time!
